Elon Musk has big plans for Twitter. After acquiring the company in October 2022, he has said that he wants to make it a more open, free, and multimedia platform.
One of the biggest changes that Musk is planning is to loosen the platform’s moderation policies. He has said that he believes Twitter has been too restrictive in its censorship of content, and that he wants to make it a place where people can express themselves freely, even if their views are controversial. The main reason Elon bought Twitter in the first place is to prioritize Freedom of Speech on the platform. Part of his vision for X is to really nurture the feeling of the “digital town square”.
Musk is also planning to make X more of a multimedia platform. He has said that he wants to add features for live audio and video streaming, as well as make it easier to share and view audio and video content on the platform. This would make X a more engaging and interactive platform, and it would also make it a more powerful tool for communication and expression. In the less than a year since purchasing Twitter, Elon has already drastically grown the presence of long form video content on Twitter!
Personalities like Tucker Carlson, Russell Brand, Lex Fridman and others have already begun building their brands on what is now X. X has also opened the door for presidential candidates to speak on the issues, without censoring. This allows candidates like RFK Jr. to get a chance that mainstream media won’t allow. I believe we will continue to see growing use of long form video as we go, eventually leading to X being a real competitior to Youtube, Twitch, etc.
In addition to these changes, Musk is also planning to make X more personalized for users. He has said that he wants to use AI to recommend content to users, and he also wants to allow users to create more custom profiles. This would make X a more user-friendly platform, and it would also help users to connect with the content and people that they are most interested in. Currently, you can use “lists” to create a feed based on selected topics. Elon Musk and his team at X have also improved algorithms in order to provide people using X with more personalized content related to them! Personally, I’ve also noticed it becoming much easier to edit the tweets that get recommended on your For You feed with simply changing what you engage with.
Finally, Musk is also planning to make X more globalized. He has said that he wants to add more languages to the platform, and he also wants to make it easier for users from different countries to connect with each other. This would make X a more inclusive platform, and it would also help to make it a more powerful tool for communication and collaboration.
